Nostalgia Galore

I finally watched two movies that have been out for a bit tonight: Inside Out and Paper Towns . Let me tell you, both brought on the nostalgia like you would not believe. Just to be clear, I am not a crier, and the last bit of Inside Out, t he water works kept gently falling. The fact that the holidays are quickly approaching, without the presence of family...not helping either. I have to say, Inside Out , so well done. As a young adult, I found things that I could relate to from my childhood, teen years, and college/grad school years. As a music therapist I found myself wanting to jump in and help Riley, Joy, & Sadness work through the emotions. I think I felt such strong emotions of sadness/nostalgia during Inside Out is because like Riley, I too am starting a new chapter in my life. Pretty soon, there will no longer be the buffer of "student" status between me and the "real" world. I have finished my certifications, and have but a few (major) "t...

Take the Wheel - Please!

It's funny how God-moments happen when you're not expecting it (as if you can ever plan on them!). Driving back from Georgia this morning, of course my moment hits. It's also 'funny' how you don't realize there's something weighing on you until it decides to be released. The past few days I've been spending some quality time with the road, and that has afforded me the opportunity to be alone with my thoughts, as random they sometimes are. Have you ever felt like you're called to go off the well-worn path, and you know if you do it will be met with opposition? I've known for a while what I've felt called to do, and I have these goals that I've been working towards. Finally, I am getting to the point where I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and now? Now I have to decide what to do with my life and it's scary! I had forgotten that I'm not the one in control of my life. I had forgotten my life and my plans are in the ha...

Timelines

So in the past 2.5 weeks I received what I classified as "disappointing news." Good news: I have completed my music therapy internship! Bad news: I won't be going before the University IRB until August, and the hospital's IRB until November. Bad news continues: I won't be able to begin collecting my data until Christmas break - approximately the first 3 weeks in December. Bad news: I now cannot complete my thesis until the Spring semester. Bad news: I don't graduate with my M.M. until May 2016. Good news: I can sit for the CBMT whenever I want. Good news: I have (for at least the Fall semester) a graduate assistantship. Good news: I have an entire school year to work on my thesis, rather than a semester. Good news: I have some part-time contract work with the hospital for a few weeks. Potential good news: I might be able to get some work through a private practice. Bad news: I have to leave a town I love, and the friends I've made in...
